Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
I'm taking the day off tomorrow to fish. Heading down south. I'm in paralysis right now and can't decide where... I fished the Willow on Sunday and had a nice hendrikson hatch in the afternoon. Tempted to go back, but I've never been to the Neversink and it seems like this might be a good...
I catch the bulk of my fish with nymphs and soft hackles, fishing dead drift and working upstream late morning and mid-afternoon. I think my technique is pretty dated though. I usually fish with a 2-3" dropper about 18" above my point fly and a cortland tube indicator (a 3/4" hollow chunk of...
I was out deer hunting (bow season) in a steep woodlot here in Albany. Sitting by a tiny creek. 2 deer ticks, but no deer spotted. The leaves were wet from last nights rain, and I left my stump a little early and still hunted my way back to the jeep.
About half way back, I ran into a critter...
Usually, I enjoy them. Especially after say 1pm when bikini's start floatin' by.
I'll start with Sunday at 2pm. I was on fire--was casting weighted nymphs and setting the hook on trout at a rate of probably a dozen an hour. The trout didn't seem to mind the traffic--I'd earlier hooked what...
So I got skunked. It was very tough to get into. The carry from the lot was bout a mile and half and ankle deep in water most o the way. Uphill, at a steady unrelenting 5% grade most of the way. Drove my 17' boat into incoming T-storms down the first pond; storm luckily went down the left...
St Regis Pond is beautiful. We put in at Paul Smith's college and it takes maybe a half day to get there with I think 4 short carries. Never caught anything there. If you maps.google.com "saint regis pond", the point to the left of the marker has the best site by far. They've pushed most of...
I had been planning on heading to Idaho. Unfortunately, as it turns out, I'm not eligible for free airline passes through my brother (pilot) til next year.
Canoe's on the roof of the Jeep, and the gear's getting packed. I'll be going a little light on dinners; hope the fishing pans out...
The kids do when when we go to Norway with a net off the dock. The crabs aren't all that big (fly reel sized). Plus, there are torsk (cod) and makrell to be caught with only a dozen pulls on the oars.
I've heard stories about the center of the photo there, right on the county line. But really, I'm still holding onto the thought of heading down to Roscoe as long as the clouds don't deliver too much.
*scurries off to tie some damsel fly nymphs
Damn! The wife and kids are out of town for a while, I have a 4-day weekend coming up and most everything is completely blown out. But was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!?
So Plan B is in the works... Who's with me? (seriously).
Had a really good morning on the Willow yesterday--I was deadly. Things tapered during the afternoon, but with enough to keep things interesting. Evening was pretty nice.
Never fished there before--really like it.
Got a handful of these throughout the day.
