Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

    Fishing bamboo

I only fish bamboo rods, ranging from 4-wt through 7-wt, and I've never settled on a particular brand or style of line. I sometimes use a silk line (and I do dress it with Otter Butter as narcodog recommended), but I mostly use synthetic lines. In general, Cortland 444 in double taper works well...

    Classic Trout flies

I use a lot of the generalized patterns such as Cinbergs, March Brown Variants, Atherton Number Fives, and the Dorato Hare's Ear. Mostly on broken water as Rusty pointed out, but I'll also break out a scraggly Cinberg or a small Dorato on smooth water. The Catskill Fly Tyers Guild is a good...

A Wild Trout Stream and not

A fellow I know helped stock trout in the Passaic River along Wagaraw Road in 2014 when the hatchery had a disease problem and relocated some fish to non-trout waters. He said that by the time they returned with the second net of fish, the huge pike were waiting for them and tore the trout apart.

2018 International Fly Tying Symposium this weekend

I'll be there Sunday morning, tying for the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild. I'll most likely whip up some Ciinbergs and Atherton number fives. Hope that a few of you can stop by.

    The Angling Author

Agreed! I didn't see it, even though the evidence was there...the writing style...the cuckery...but I was thrown off by the author catching several salmon.

    The Angling Author

Looks like Beetle folded the magazine too soon. The writer that he always wanted finally showed up. I like Angling Author's sense of priorities.

    Wild or not?

Not a wild fish in my opinion. No red spots at all, and many of the dark spots border each other creating a bit of a chain pickerel look in a few places. I've seen that look on many stocked fish in NY state. Can't tell the condition of the pectoral fins from that picture, but the coloration...

    Bamboo rod whatsit

Swamprat. My opinion leans toward a Phillipson Paragon, but I think that the tip section is from a different rod. Tbe butt and mids are wrapped in the correct colors for the Paragon, and the 59 8 1/2 - 5 HEH is consistent with the way the rod would be marked. That 59 refers to an employee...

    Last fly swap was....

Well then he's screwed if he expects my flies to actually catch fish.

    So...how is this thing looking?

    Last fly swap was....

Sorry I missed you LU. I was tying at the table that was directly behind the fellow who was selling the necks and saddles. All of the guys at my table are members of the Hudson Valley Fly Fishers. I managed to knock out 8 pink squirrel nymphs for the PHW donation part of our swap. I wasn't...

    Last fly swap was....

I'm almost done with the swap flies, and then I have to start the donation flies. I'll get most of it done this week and will probably finish up during SGM-fest next Sunday.

    Musconetcong "Mantis Man"

Perhaps NEFFer flymantis73 can provide an explanation.

    Last fly swap was....

I realize that it's a bit of a running joke...but if NEFF's existence on March 1st is a possible concern, then perhaps we should each PM TomFly our email address so communication for the swap gets completed. March 1st should be fine for my flies being ready.
