Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!
I've never fished the Hendrickson hatch and I will be fishing the Kettle Creek, PA, area in the spring.
I have no patterns for the nymphs. Anyone care to give me some patterns or tell me where I can find some? I'd be very appreciative.
How long does it take you to tie a dozen of those flies? Man they're beautiful. I don't know if I'd take a chance on losing them. When I tie a crummy nymph I don';t worry about losing a few because they're easy to tie, but those are like artwork.
I use a 9' rod and the nymph leaders I build usually come out to 10' or more and I think they don't need to be that long. I fish the small to medium size streams of PA and I'm looking for a good 7 1/2' leader.
Thanks,
Bruce
Whew! This is making me dizzy, but I've learned some. Have I got this correct?
1. Fluorocarbon builds better nymph leaders because they're less drag resistant, thus sink quicker?
2. The lightest butt and mid-sections one can get away with will build a better nymph leader?
It seems no matter...
I tie them in olive, tan, black, white and red. So far I've done the best with the olive and red. I agree the smaller sizes work the best. I never heard of Mercer's Midgeling.
That's a good idea with the ultra wire. I think my favorite material is squirrel dubbing. I love the buggy look it gives a fly and the little bubbles that stick to it when it gets wet. My next best material, if you can consider it as such, is thread. I'm tying more and more thread bodied flies...
Thanks. Let's keep this discussion alive. I tied some midge larva patterns from John Barr's book on size 24 and 26 size 2488 TMC hooks. I even fished them on 5x tippet and caught trout with them, but I started wondering what sizes are the midges we try to imitate here in PA. I figure if I...
Hi: The problem with taking our concerns to the Fish and Game Commissions is that they are not funded by the state and therefore have no checks and balances. It's pretty much a group of people that do what they want. They have public meetings, etc., but it doesn't matter.
There is no management of trout fisheries in PA. I live in Pennsylvania. Its idea of management is naming marginal waters class A streams so they don't have to worry about managing them. The stocking program is rediculous. They stock 6 to 9 inch trout so they don't have to feed them to grow an...
