GB_ It wasn't my choice. The chapter decided to have a fly-tying night, so booking a speaker for December was not necessary. Denny

    New Small Stream Fly Rod

As I mentioned several times on this site over the past 2 years or so, I have a custom made "Flea Rod" made by Bill Dettmar from the old Delaware River Outfitters Fly shop in Pennington. Actually, I bought the rod from Mark Dettmar just before he passed away. It is a 2 wgt rod only 38 inches...

    5/10/10 Report

Congrats, Sheisty... When you are proficient on the nymphs, then try some dry flies like the Adams, or the Light Cahill. Then you'll really see how much fun fly fishing is when you can see the swirl and hear the splash. Denny

    Toms River this year.

Fished the Toms only once this year. Got nothing from the RW Park down to the bridge. Down stream of the bridge, I got one small (8") pickerel and one average size stockie on a Mickey Finn streamer. Denny

New to forum and fly fishing

Welcome Dirty... I grew up and fished in the Red Bank/Little Silver area (right next to Middletown) for about 25 years. No stream trout fishing in the immediate area, but tons of great saltwater action for Stripers, Weakfish, and Blues in the Navesink & Shrewsbury Rivers, and Stripers and Albies...

    First Toms Trout!

Mike, Don't be so hard on the Toms. As I reported earlier, I fished it twice last year, and managed a total of 4 rainbows. Its actually a nice looking stream. See picture. (Single-click on it to enlarge) Denny

    Line color

BT- I agree with you. As I said earlier in this post (before I got attacked by AK), it's my opinion that trout see all color lines only as a black line against the brighter sky. They don't see it as any color. Denny

    Line color

AK- You poor misguided puppy. You see, you see....... I was right ! If you actually were as great as you think you are, you wouldn't have to scream your responses in increased size, bold, colored text. People would pay attention to you if you spoke in normal tones. However, I forgive you because...

    Line color

Thanks, AK! I'm sure that all of us would value your opinion highly, if it weren't just an opinion of one poor, misdirected, misguided, unhappy soul. Merry Christmas to you too. I hope that you and your shrink have a fruitful series of visits during this Holiday season. Best Wishes to you, Denny

    Line color

I'm with Rusty Spinner in that the more subdued the line color is, the more content I feel that I'm in touch with nature. However, I personally don't think it makes much difference to the fish. The fish are looking up into a brighter sky background, so any color line just blocks out the light...

Peter O. Wacker is not a Porn Star

In a previous thread on History And Folklore, Posted by Sonny, Rusty Spinner mentioned a book he borrowed from JeffK. Being a NJ History buff, I found that the Mercer County Library had not only that book, but several others also written on similar subjects by Peter O. Wacker. If interested, see...

    History and Folklore

JeffK- I have always been interested in NJ history, mostly centered around the streams down in the Pine Barrens. I have a whole collection of books on the subject, and a few on the North Jersey area. What is the name/author of the book you loaned to Brian he refers to above? Denny
