Binghamton fishing

Picture-Taker // Fish Scare-er
I have a buddy in Rochester and we're trying to find a decent halfway spot to fish and grab some dinner after. On the map it looks like Scranton pa and Binghamton ny are half points on main routes.

I'd don't mind doing my own research but I figured I'd ask on here and see if anyone would be able to give me some general direction. Also accepting reccs for a decent bite and a brew

Thanks!

Occasionally I travel out to Scranton for work related issues. I know that the Lackawanna River had some issues in the past with mine leach polluting the river. In resent years it has come back. I have fish it a few times. Not enough to give it fair assessment. I did catch some fish. It is rumored to hold some big fish 18" t0 20" range in the fly fishing stretch.

The Lacky has huge wild browns, but it's more like combat, urban fishing. Because the fish can't be eaten due to mine issues, they get big. But why bother when you have the West Branch a short distance east? Fish the upper stretches and there's the Troutskellar Bar at the WB Angler Resort for a cold beer and warm food when you're done. Problem solved.

Central NYS has some underused fisheries, but maybe not just halfway.

The Cohecton up from Bath is a decent sized stream with a with mix of wild and stocked browns that is a lot like the Willowemoc. It is closer to Rochester though.
The Genegantslet is north and east of Binghampton and Region 7 COs have told me it is the most underutilized trout stream in NYS. Between Binghampton and Cortland are a number of streams - the Otselic, the branches of the Tioughnioga, Factory Bk, etc. Closer to Syracuse is a limestone belt with Nine Mile Ck, Limestone Ck, and Skaneatles Ck. One really odd choice is Fabius Bk. Many trout and even some burbot, but it is in the most awful, hard to walk swamp in North America. Hence the good fishing.

These are streams that are generally off people's radar (except maybe Nine Mile) so you wouldn't see crowds. You wouldn't see fly shops either, so bring your own tackle and enough tippet. This is a place for exploration rather than reading internet reports for intel, but you can find some hidden gems. These places are boony, but the larger cities, the college towns, and the towns on the Finger lakes will have good food and drink. Can find some out of the way places as well.
