Board:

Please remember the The International Fly Tying Symposium will be held this Saturday and Sunday November 22 - 23, 2003 at the Double Tree Hotel in Somerset New Jersey. Please stop by the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild Boothe and say hello. I will be tying on Saturday from 9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon and from 3:00 PM till 6:00 PM and Sunday from 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM. I hope to see every one there. This is a really nice show where you will get some really cool pointers on tying and get to meet some talented tyers and have a chance to buy some nice fly tying and fly fishing products and books. This show is much smaller to the show in January thus allowing you to get personal with the tyers and demonstrations.

Andy,
I plan on going to the show on Saturday. I will stop your booth by to meet you in person, and thank you for coordinating the fly swaps. I would like to find out how you fish those beatiful wet flies that you tie.
Best regards,
Rich T

NJflyguy, you'll get a list when you pay your entrance. Andy, that was smart, sticking yourself with three tying slots so you can't spend all your dough. Personally i only took one so i could "have a ball." LMAO. In Jan. i'll probably pick two or three, by that time Danbury will have already tapped me, lol. mark

12 noon in the bar

Also guys, DO NOT forget we are meeting in the bar at 12 noon on Sun. to hang out for a while. Andy, you can make that. And pass that around. mark

Could one fo you guys involved find out for me if Elkhorn Flyrods will have a booth....If so I might be inclined to bring a few more greenbacks with me....any help much appreciated....

Hi NJ. I doubt that Elkhorn will be at the I.F.T.S. show. They WILL however be at the Fly Fishing Show in Jan., right next door to where we'll be this weekend. For the last two years in a row they have had a show special that is a great deal. Any rod, (except spey) and reel for $165. You can't beat that. I almost went for it last year, and i think this year i'm going to go for it and get the one wt. Remember, "an armored car, doesn't follow a hearst." And when it comes to tackle, think like a drummer who's an artist. The cymbal doesn't make the drummer, the drummer makes the cymbal." Elkhorn makes fine tackle and your the artist casting the fly. I got lucky the other night up in Cortland, N.Y. at the "party" for Leon Chandler and won a Lefty Kreh Signiture Model Temple Fork 6wt. 9ft. 4 piece rod in a silent auction for $115. I say won, because of the savings. My wife said ok, when i asked her if we could put in a bid, and then no one came behind us to top it. Go figure. I think that rod only goes for between $200 and $300 retail, but the point is, the price of a rod doesn't always mean it's good or it isn't. You have to be the one to make it work for you. I got the lifetime warrenty and i think you will to if you buy an Elkhorn. Good luck, mark

I have seen the deal and didn't have the green to go for it last year at the big show in rockland last year...Since I have seen their rods. they look good, I have heard good things as well and most important I got to cast one in Alaska, a 9ft 9 weight that one of the guides used as his personal rod.....I hope the deal remains similar to what it was in the past....

Hi all, I am a newbie back on the board again (now that I have more free time) I will be at the show on Saturday afternoon and will definetly stop by and say hi. It will be nice to meet some of the members of this great forum!

The only Rod vendors normally there are a few Bamboo rod makers. You won't see the big Graphite companies around.

I was thinking of taking a ride over on Saturday. I may bring one of my kids (she's 5) do you think they'll charge me for her?

sberwitz, the bar at noon on Sun. Don't space it, go to the bar in the hotel at 12:00 noon on Sun. Dennis, i HIGHLY doubt it....... although, unless she has a good long attention span for a 5 yr. old, you'll be outta there before you can see half the show. There are over 80 tyers along, then vendors, etc. Is she a fisherperson? lol. See you in the bar at noon on Sun., if not sooner. I'm meeting njflyfishers AND VFB members there at the same time. mark

See every one at the show. Make sure you guys all stop by and say hello to me at The Catskill Fly Tyers Guild Booth.

Wish we had a "booth" Andy. As such, all it is, is a table. Course once we put our backdrop behind it, you could almost call it a booth, lol. Nontheless, please do stop by and see Andy, he's a very energetic and positive guy. And don't forget to have $10 on you for membership in the CFTG. VBG............mark
