Did you know that women represent the fastest growing segment of the fly fishing industry? A full 20 - 22% of fly anglers are now women and that # continues to grow. TU is reaching out to the ladies to engage them in conservation, time on the water, and other events of interest to our female anglers.

Free memberships to new ladies joining TU! For additional details, see below:

Another worthless made up statistic, no chance that one out of every five fly anglers is a woman. But, its nice to see GB can join for free now.........

I don't know, those are industry figures, not TU figures. All species, not just trout and salmon. I know tons of women fly anglers. Many of our chapters have active female board members, chapter presidents, etc. There is a group of ladies that my chapter gains a lot of members from that are the Dame Anglers Club. I spoke recently to the Joan Wulff Anglers, all ladies. The women's breast cancer recovery group, Casting For Recovery are all female fly anglers. You might be surprised at just how many there are out there. I guide at least 1 in 7 ladies to men here in NJ.

I like the initiative, but kind of question the statistics too. I only see the rare woman when I'm fishing. But then again, maybe the crowd I fish with have a high woman repellant coefficient.

Of course the statistic is invented, statistics are invented all the time for various reasons.

Regardless of whether women make up 1/100 of 1% of all fly anglers or 99.9% of them, we are moving forward with getting them more involved in coldwater conservation :)

If we are to protect and restore our fisheries, we're going to need all the help we can get. Personally, I'd rather chat with the ladies than a bunch of old, white guys at our meetings...

Though some might doubt statistics, women continue to be the fastest consumer to the fly fishing industry. Whether it is TU, TGFF, or other clubs and organizations, women are becoming part of the angling and conservation community. The Somerset Forum was held again this year, with 97 women showing up in two days.

And you did an amazing job of leading those discussions. It's always fascinating to me as a male angler to hear what females think about their experiences with other anglers that happen to be male. Some had great experiences and other women had ridiculous experiences that would make most men angry if they heard the things said to female fly anglers.

I as a man, have had my fair share of bad expereinces with other men fishing. Most people I run into are super nice and polite, but there are nasty people in them there woods and I for one would be happy with my wife fishing alone in some of the remote locations I fish. She hikes alone often enough but she brings the dog. I never really thought about it because she doesn't fish, but I can see why it could be a real concern for many.

I've been seeing more and more women fly fishing over the years and, I see them often fishing alone (probably stalking me). :)

Pete-
I did see this when it came out, but was not aware that you posted to the forum on it. I appreciate your support and you are so not to blame. Thanks again and hope to see you on the mighty mighty Ramapo.
