Too many streams too little time
Yesterday I got the itch to get out and wet a line so I rang up BHC to see if he wanted to hit a Pocono Stream for some late afternoon action. He was up for it so i headed out the door around 1pm and headed north. On the way up a series of heavy rain showers passed through giving me pause as to whether I should continue. The rivers have come up a bit so I figured what the heck lets see what happens. I arrived at the stream as the rain was clearing and saw the water immediately in front of me was a bit stained. I headed upstream about a 100 yards where the water winds away from the road and it looked much better. As i headed up a side channel to the main stem I saw a fish rising sporadically about 20 feet off the bank in relatively shallow water. I tied on a size 14 ISO para emerger and after 5 drifts got the fly where i wanted and a beautiful brown took with an aggressive strike. I quickly released and set to looking for more risers. Not much happening so I walked upstream to where i have had a good deal of success on previous outings. The leaves are in the water alreeady and the increased volume of water while good to see did not lend itself to rising fish. I swung some wooly buggers for a bit and then decided to head back down to the tailout to meet up with BHC. The humidity mixed with cooler water and a clearing sky made for some great scenery. As I made my way down Al was targeting a fish at the bottom of the tailout. A flurry of caddis started to come off in good numbers but the fish were still rising sporadically. Al hooked and landed a small native brownie as I spotted another fish slightly upstream. After a few casts I got another aggressive take and brought an average sized brownie to hand. The fog was setting in pretty good so we called it a day and headed out for a good meal before I made my way home happy to have gotten out for a few hours and happier still to have brought some beautiful fish to hand. Enjoy the pics!!!
