Walton Powell&Utica Bamboo Fly Rods

I recently purchased two boo rods at an auction, a Walton Powell 2-pcs with extra tip 8 1/2' & a utica 3-pcs w/extra tip 8 1/2'. How do I tell the age of these boo rods.

I would ask the guys at The Classic Fly Rod Forum - Message Board - Yuku - they are the pros at this. And post plenty of pictures, brief word descriptions aren't enough to date a rod.

That said, the Walton Powell is fairly recent - he is a noted maker from California. The Utica could be anytime up to the 1950's. Utica is a trade name for Horrocks-Ibbottson (HI) since they were located in Utica, NY. They made mid to low priced rods for a long time and stopped making bamboo in the 1950s.

I'm surprised the auction company couldn't tell you more. How did you know what you were bidding on? Anyway, all the details would be in the serial number so I hope it's still on the rod. If Jeff's post didn't help, contact Len Codella. He would definitely know. :)
