Bamboo Rod Forum

bamboo

Cool Dennis, i know a lot of guys who are totall "Quad" nuts. I've cast one Quad Bamboo rod, made by Ron Kusse and it is a dream. Course it cost about 3K, and Ron is "The" premire bamboo rod builder in the world. So, i expected it would be VERY nice. But it was even better than that. Takes about 2 to 3 years to get your rod when you order from him, so one does need to be patiant. He builds them all himself, including the hardware. He was vice president at Leonard for many years, and has been doing it for a half century. You can go to his site from the FAOL site. He's a sponser there and a host in their chat room, (the HUT). I just left there a minute ago, and everyone is fine, LOL. I have one Kusse rod, a graphite, 9 ft. 9 wt. tournament casting rod. It's "The Bomb" and you can throw a mile with it. I'm thinking of doing some salt water fishing with it someday. Well, good luck with the Bambo forum. mark

Not sure if anyone can help me, but an old 1920's era Winchester bamboo rod just fell into my hands, and I'm curious about it. All I have is a model number 6111. My understanding is that this number should be able to tell me quite a bit about what the model was, when it was made, etc...
Anyone have some sort of Winchester catalog or bamboo rod reference table or some such that might help?
Thanks
-Thom

I would like to get into bamboo however the prices are way out of my league with numbers like $1800 to $3500 bucks. Are there any decent entry level bamboo rods out there that are in the $300 to $500 range. I saw a few on the net but have no idea if they are any good. I don't need fancy hardware with script designs and a dress to kill look, just a good bamboo rod at an affordable price.

go on clarks classic fly rods.
most modern makers post there and yes there are 400 to 600 dollar rods.
pennington rods comes to mind, A.J thramer allso.
hope this helps

EC:
Might want to try, denverdave.net or coldwater collectibles, not sure of web site. Both have some reasonably priced boo's.

You may want to check out Art Weilers bamboo rods he is located in Kunkle Town Pa. nice craftmanship and good prices as well you can go see him and cast some of his rods and see what you like. He has a website as well you can google his name for the site hope this helps. With the prices of high end graphite escalating makes a nice bamboo rod look affordable . Good luck with your hunt and future purchase.
