broken ferrule

jamiep

homeward bound
Hey Lads.
I bought a bamboo rod a few months back from a source in china . Its a pretty good rod in my opinion. I know its not on par with the hand crafted stuff of you guys on the board Create. Nor can i afford one of those Masterpieces at this present time. So please spare me the you get what you pay for speil i know i know Im an idoit. i figured let me start of small

My problem is that below the female ferrule the thread wrap has broke and the ferrule is loose . I would also like to refinish the rod and put a new stripping guide aswell as a new reel seat. Its a 2 peice 8' 5-6 weight

Where could someone like myself get this done without having to spend 3 or 4 bills (Just a number i came up with).

Thew rod cost me $150 and has got some good reveiws . Is it worth trying to do myself i have no clue what im doing but am pretty handy when it comes to working ith my hands. Im no way an artist like ronbo and others.

Thanks in advance lads

I won't get into the you get what you pay for thing but can you name
the chinese builders name, not the company which I'm sure I already know but the actual builders name.:nose-picking:
I thought so.
Bring the rod to flyfest or mail it to me and I'll repair the rod for you.
Some time in the future you will buy a quality rod from someone who's name you can actually read and pronounce.:rofl::rofl:

You might want to give Bill Dettmar a call, he is very reasonably priced and produces quality work.

He once repaired a ferrule on one of my bamboo rods and I was very happy.

Bill is still making and repairing rods from his home @ 908-359-1830.

Those rods look nice for the price. Besides the apparently unsatisfactory components, would you recommend one?

No id rather save my money and buy a good rod from a known builder that stands behind his work.

It was a complete impulse buy, before really knowing what i was buying would i do it again no but i wouldnt get married again either man.

Excellent advice, and, excellent advice. I have 4 impulse fly rods I'd actually trade for a case of beer if anybody's interested...

Considering the price you paid.... If you like the rod...

If you have the time and patience, I wouldn't hesitate to do it myself.
You can start with the repair, if this gives you enough confidence to continue, go for the refinish.

There are many sources of components (Mud Hole & etc), but if you don't want to spend too much on your first project, check out www.jannsnetcraft.com
