Caveat Emptor-Ebay users in New York

A warning to you New York Ebay users. I just found out the hard way that NYS is imposing a sales tax on all transactions above $110. I purchased a rod from the State of Oregon which has no sales tax. Ebay then tacked on $40.62 sales tax for NYS. I contacted the NYS Tax Department and they confirmed that it is now the Law. It is now a destination State tax.

They charged me 8.5%. I did buy a new rod for half the retail price. That is the only bright side.

That sucks but gotta pay for those Cuomo / DiBlasio illegals somehow.

I wonder if that applies for used purchases as well.

OH well, there goes that. Other states will soon follow cause they won't want to be left out of a dollar grab. I too am interested but you have to assume if it applied to an eBay purchase then it must apply to used goods too.

how's that method of sales tax collection working for you at the gas pump, grocery store, phone bill, internet bill? only being mostly sarcastic. I knew a guy who didn't let vendors collect lots of taxes.
