Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Dave@neffz.com

Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
Flip Pallot will be in town on Sat. Feb. 28, 2004 to give a presentation on back country and flats fishing in the Florida Keys. He will be at the Ramsey Outdoor Store located on Rt.17N in Paramus, NJ. Starting time is 10:00am and 1:00pm. He is the host of the Walker's Cay Chronicles on ESPN.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave, i take it your going. Cool man, "have a ball." Trust me, you will. I was there for the same thing about 3 or 4 years back, and Lefty was there that day too. So my wife and i got both of them to sign Flips book, (which had just come out), right on the double spread page where both of their photos are. YES! Flip is just like he is on T.V. too. Super cool and very for real. And his eloquent speach pattern is the same................born poet. Beautiful cat. Enjoy your day. We we're there last Sat. for Cabin Fevor Day, musta been 35 tyers or so. Ramsey's Outdoors saves our winter every year. later, mark......

Oh, did i mention i just picked up my large arbor 10 wt. Teton for the Spey rod last Sat. too.........he he he. mark........

Mark, He is one of my most favorite TV host. I have watched him for many years and loved the lay out of the show. Poet......you bet! His angle on life is great...................I admire that! I see things that way also. What are you going to use that 10wt. for................I bet you want to tackle those monster dark salmon of new york on the rig. Well.... that's what I use for them..................you see that photo of my rig in the photo gallery. Yea.............that one with the rod and flies in the flybox. The one you id'd and knew what you were l@@kkking at.................sharp eye! lol Well.............gooood luck with it!

Dave

Yes Dave i did see it. The G-Loomis 10 wt. i think it was. What reel is that, looks a little like that top of the line Ross. Back when i still had cable, (no more cable or satalite, just to busy), Flips's show was one of my very favorites also. I remember when that hurricain came thru Florida and wiped out his house. He told me a bit about that. Far as the spey thing goes.........it's just something i've always wanted to learn. Thankx, mark......

Mark, that is the Abel Super 10. I use it up in Pulaski simply because it stops those freight trains. You kinda need that there......you know..........to many people, rocks, heavy current and not so nice fisherman. Don't get me wrong..........alota nice guys................but some of the locals are not. I like to bring the fish in as soon as possible. I am not into light tackle for them. I have fished there for the over 20 yrs. and watched these fish die ........because they were played to exhaustion with light tackle. I am not into that. I also use this reel in saltwater for the blues and stripers here in NJ. I have used other reels for the salmon....................but they don't have enough braking for me..............except the Billy Pate Bonefish... works O.K.........but I like the Abel better. I had to eat alot of peanut butter and jelly sandwichs just to save up to buy that reel. LOL. As far as the spey goes.......technic means alot. Good Luck!

Dave

Yo Dave, i "Knew" it was an Able, dang! Boy you go with the BEST! I have one small reel which is an Islander i like a LOT! Good reel companay. Anyway....sure would like to go up to the Palaski area with you sometime, if you got eyes. Specially since you have all that experience. I've only been twice. Lemme know. By the way, also seems you have some spey casting experience?? Maybe i could pay you for a lesson or two?? I really don't want to get any bad habits started, "technique wise." Now, in case you don't know already..........we are having a "Gathering" here, (in Roscoe) from May 31st thru June 6th. That's a Mon. thru Sun. There are no fees of any kind for anything except your lodging and food and whatever else you decide to spend money on, LOL. We will have a One Pattern Contest on Fri. June 4th, a Neversink River Day on Thur. June 3rd, and tying sessions every night, and who knows all what else......one thing a big dinner get together on Sat. June 5th. Basically we fish together, tye together, and simply hang out and eat and drink together for a week. Four clubs/web-sites have been invited. Should be close to 100 people. And that is why you should make a reservation for lodging NOW!!!!!!!! If you wait past the middle of next month, EVERYTHING will be sold out. Maybe you don't mind sleeping in your truck for a week? LOL. So Lemme know if you might make it. mark............

Mark, Anything is possible...................I am on vacation the first 2 weeks of June. I'll check it out and let you know. Fishing in Pulaski for the salmon is a lot of fun. I usually go up there in the middle of Oct. I will definetly keep you in mind and let you know the date's later in the year.If you go.............you will really appreciate these monsters. Most of the fish I catch average 15 to 29 pds. and up to about 38" in length. Alot of horsepower there! Well.........I am off to see Flip. Have a great one.

Dave

Flip Pallot

Flip was suppose to have a presentataion on fly fishing the backcountry and flats of the Florida Keys today at Ramsey Outdoor Store in Paramus, NJ. However ................he could not make it. He just got back from Costa Rica and came down with a sickness. He has sores in and around his mouth. Billy stated that they we reschedule him for sometime at the end of March or early April.

Dave

Excuse me dave,

You have watched these salmon die due to over-playing? I have been fishing the Salmon and all the other rivers in that area of New York since 1984 too... and you are trying to lead folks to believe that you know which salmon die from over playing? C'mon man, they all die after they spawn. All Pacific Salmon do. The banks, eddies and shallows are littered with rotting, dying salmon every year after the run.

Later, RW

Hi Dave, thankx for thinking of me in terms of this fall up there. My wife actually holds the family record for fresh water fish, with a 36 inch Chinook she got on the (Douglaston stretch) Salmon River. Like i said we've been twice. My largest Steelhead (landed) was a bit over 8 lbs. My largest Steelhead (not lander) was estimated by the guide to be around a 16 pounder. Our guide was Fran Verdaleva back when he was still quiding. He's as good as they get. A really swell person, who is now something like the "River Keeper" up there. Sorry you missed Flip's program. I've been up about 25 hours now, so i think i'll be gettin' some sleep soon, LOL. mark.........

Hey Rw, You missed the point all together! No kidding they die after the spawn. I am talking about the guys who fish a 5 wt. outfit and fight these fish for 20-25 min. to complete exhaustion ... belly up......and then land them. They try to resuitate it and the fish does not make it. Then they have to keep it. I want to land my fish a fast as possible to give it the best chance of survival. Mother nature does the rest. I started fishing there in 1978........I have seen it all. I am sorry you missed the point!
