George Harvey's slack leader design question

I am looking to tie up and try some George Harvey slack leaders and any help would be appreciated. I have the formulas but I some question for those who use them regarding the materials used for the "hard" and "soft" portions of the leaders. I have also heard that their is new or modification that has been made for the "hard" segments that may now employ a "softer" material for the butt section than the orginal.

i have tied leaders using george harveys formulas for 30 years,they work great.i use maxima for the hard leader material and the least expensive material i can find for the soft material.the maxima leader material has larger diameters than the spools indicate.

I also tie harvey leaders and use maxima. I only use it for the butt section because it's so stiff and visible. When i get down to the smaller diameter sections i just use regular fishing mono and tippet. I haven't really experimented too much with the way i tie them, because it's worked fine for me. I believe the maxima is called chameleon, but i don't really know offhand. I know it's some sort of maxima, it's brown, and very stiff.

YES,it is the brown chameleon color and it is very stiff.never have trouble with the trout seeing my leaders,i only fish where they have bad eye sight i guess.for dry fly leaders i use the stiff material for all sections except the last two.

I personally think the Maxima Chameleon is pretty invisible in the water, never had a problem with fish shying away from it anyway. And I've even used tied directly to the fly.
