Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Nice! Where are you catching these? I was going to try swinging for them with my spey rod when I get back to NC when they run up the Cape Fear River to spawn.

Alright....I gotta ask..... And let me preface my question by saying that I have absolutely no problem with the way these stripers are being held..... BUT.... Why is it that if someone posted a pic of a trout being held in a similar manner there would be total NEFF condemnation and outrage?

Firstly I totally agree that people are over obsessive about ripping on people who want to share their photos. Also, I believe that is the correct way to hold a bass. I still hold stripers the way I would hold trout but I think that is out of habit. My buddy who is a bass nut holds em like that and guys on tv hold em like that, so I think there is nothing wrong with holding a bass like that. Something to do with their jaw is prob the answer. Awesome pics and I love those jig flies you got goin on. I tied up a few last year and they work great.

Bass and trout are different, obviously. Bass calm when they are pinched under the tongue, or at least that is what I have seen, by experience, and have been told, by bass fishermen. Try pinching a trout under his tongue, especially a "Trouser Trout", and see what happens...you will probably bleed a little and know what a nymph feels like when it gets bit...anyway..nothing wrong with the way the bass are being held.....I bet if you hold a trout like that and post a pick, you will get shit on.....:)

So Is this acceptable or not? Yes, that is me holding the fish, and it has beautiful color and markings.

I can't believe I'm getting shit for lipping a bass. It's not a brook trout from the shire here people....

I don't think anyone gave you any shit. I certainly didn't. Fish do not need to be handled like they are Faberge' eggs.

Nicklenuts bet that striper ran like hell huh nice looking fish... who really cares what method you use to hold the fish me i would of threw his ass on the sand then took the hook out rinsed and threw in the cooler...
same for those trout you see

Maybe "shit" wasn't the right way to bring up the fact that someone brought up handling in this thread. Still, I'm taken aback by the sheer fact it was mentioned.

@tf

My drag wasn't set quite right and as soon as he grabbed on he took off immediately. No hook set needed. Took about 5 minutes and both sides of the canoe to land em. Great times.

I will say that small Bronzer faught like a stone cold bitch as well. For this river, that smallmouth actually was a decent size.

If you are talking about me...somwone asked..I have no problem at all with the way the bass are being held....They are good eatin'''''

Relax he prefaced his question by saying he has no problem with the way you held the fish he was merely making a comparison and asking a why its ok to hold bass this way. Believe me on this forum you will see a lot worse

In any case - thanks Joe M for the hookup. First 10 weight hookup as well. Rod and reel work great. sinking line is also pretty good.

I think I'll take the equipment up north for some trophy wild browns should I get the opportunity this year. I have a feeling that setup would clean up in certain areas of my home state

Nice job on the stripes. I was out plugging the surf Friday night and bluefish are here! Big ones too. I bought a used 7wt a week ago to use for warmwater fish but I'm gonna try to use it to get into some saltwater species as well.

I hold Bass from the lip but I don't hold them horizontally. I feel like it puts too much pressure on the jaw, especially if it's a larger fish. But that is the way all the pros on TV hold them, so I guess its cool.

He wasn't big. But he faught like a bitch bastard. Bottom line, i dont hold trout like that. And If it was a problem or potentialIy injuring the fish I wouldn't have held em like that

One thing for sure is, when I caught this one there wasn't any chance of using the lip hold..... and again..I have no issue with the lip hold.

Few people know this but it is perfectly acceptable to hold Bluefish by the lip as well. Give it a try! :smiley-sniffer:

Lip hold on some stripper...wah?
That's gross...give her a break, she's prolly working her way through cosmopolitan school to be a shampoo girl.

My dad tried unhooking a bluefish once without using his forceps. As you can imagine, Mr. Bluefish thought that finger looked mighty tasty and took a chomp. It bled for a few hours and ended up infected for over a month. In case any of you thought I was serious DO NOT try to lip a bluefish.

TT, you get that on the flyrod?

Yes I did, a 5wt rod in the Raritan bay, not far off the hook..... if you click on pic you will get a better look at the fly, it is a #6 "shiner looking thing"...I think i will patent that name....can I?....

funny..maybe royalties too..thats a hell of a bass..on a 5 wt no less..i can see the fly too..im still trying to get a big bass on the flyrod..got lots of small ones..those big ones dont seem to come easy unless ur using conventional tackle..did you hide your face cause your ugly? smart...that pic just gave me a confidence boost..i cant seem to pull myself off the trout fishing though..but i will

I caught that fish on a 5 man charter, it was me the fat bastard on the left side of the pic and our 3 boys. They were all live lining and chunking bunker, I was casting and letting a lot of line out into the current and then BAM..... Although caught on a fly rod that is hardly my idea of fly fishing. I didn't hide my perfectly chiseled handsome Aryan face which is a prototypical perfect representation of the master race, my buddy took the pic and we didn't realize it til after the fish was let go.
