Is it OK to shock fish in hot temperatures?

As I understand it, the point is to check when conditions are at their worst. If the water is cool enough for them to survive in the heat of the summer, we don't have to be concerned with autumn, winter, and spring temperatures.

Thanks Pete, I was wondering if shocking them stressed them and there was a chance it would kill them....I guess not because, TU and NJ Fish and Game would know better..

Even if they lose a few, the knowledge they gain could save many more in the future.

OFF TOPIC - EDIT: I just looked. You really do have an "infraction". Even when AK & Beetle were at their worst, I never gave them infractions.... You must have been really, really bad!

I was scheduled to help with this electrofishing, but it got moved due to rains and I was away last week on business out of state when it was rescheduled. But what Pete said. Remember, we are electrofishing small tribs that are much, much colder than the larger rivers they flow into. Especially the limestone influenced streams like this one. If trout are present in summer months in mixed age classes with at least one YOY (young of year), then that water is classified as Trout Production (TP) water, and the protections TP water gets are important to the survival of the species as well as our drinking water supplies.
