I fish the south branch all the time but I live a lot closer to the North branch and i was wondering if it is really worth it to fish it instead of the south branch for a little while. Is it productive in the winter months?

Hmm with your screen name such as it is it may be tough for people to be honest with you. Let's see if you pass the smell test. When you cast your line do you first flip open the bail:)

I dont know why I ever try to use fishing forums because everyone just ends up criticizing everyone else so it kind of defeats the purpose of fishing. I just want to get some basic information, not spot burning information, but it seems some people want to put people down instead of helping the fishing community. It also doesn't make any sense when the people that are complaining that the fly fishing community doesn't get any respect are also the same people making fun of the people who want to try the sport. Anyways, any information I can get would be great, thanks!

NICE!!! I like your post, and you are right, BUT, I believe, it is all in good fun...mostly, but it seems as if people who fly fish are a bit off the beaten path as far as "normal goes". I know I am, and from what I see of this Beetle fellow so is he. We all seem to share a passion for ballbusting. I am new to this sight, but find it very amusing and educational. Many people here will help you, I've learned more about digital cameras than I care to know, by starting a thread about them. If your skin is that thin, you should fish alone and not post on the internet. Did you read the introduction to this site? It is very clear what will happen here. Anyway, I have never fished the North Branch, but I hear there are fish there, So 'lightenup" and enjoy the ribbing, and by all means return the favor....

P.S. Your name does suck....
:give-the-finger:

Hey, I can't argue with that, I am a a little bit off the beaten path myself haha, and I definitly don't mind ballbusting. I wasn't really aiming my last comment on the guy who made the joke about the bail (made me chuckle) but more to others that I have experienced in the past. But thanks for understanding haha and yeah i do get a lot of criticism on my name, believe me, i knew that when i made it:lol:

The north branch can be productive in the early part of the season. The problem with the NB is in the mid to later part of the season, it tends to loose most of its flow and become very warm. I have caught a few fish in the winter. It is not my first choice for winter fishing. Hope this helps. It is good to see that you have light side. Do not take ball busting to seriously. We all do it. It is sometimes demented but all in good fun.

The 'prime' trout water on the NBRR off of Mosle Road/Roxiticus/ Union Schoolhouse Rds is either posted against trespassing or off limits to fishing(Schiff Preserve). Once it leaves Ravine Lake and enters the Natirar Preserve , its smallmouth/redbreast sunfish/rock bass water. If not for that dam, it could hold wild trout for at least another 5 miles or so down to about 202/206 underpass. There are at least 6 coldwater tribs that feed it AFTER ravine lake that would keep it cold enough but that lake just warms the river too damn much.

Try under the pellet machine on the Mosle Road bridge. Just do it at night, don't drive and wear black. There are big fish there all the time. Seriously, though I had a good February one mild winter at the Far hills Fair Grounds catching little wild browns on my lunch break. It was more of a convenience spot than a destination. I have never had any luck but do hear the pull off on 202/206 (n) by AT&T holds fish.

How do we get Schiff to allow fishing? A limited access, donation-based, reservation would work for me.

It's not Schiff that bans fishing, it is a land dispute. I need to leave it at that, but I am working on this behind the scenes, BTW. In the meantime, NJAngler nailed it. The river above Ravine Lake is some fine WTS water, but it is heavily posted (both legally and otherwise). Raritan Associates who control several miles of private water will be doing some river channel restoration work soon on parts of their water which will help trout throughout the upper river.
