Sorry this is NJ related, but I know you guys have probably "been there and done that" so I'll ask your opinion :)
Well, June is here and in another 30 days so I my vacation... An entire week with the ENTIRE family for 1 full week in the glorious Outerbanks of North Carolina in the lovely metropolous of Kitty Hawk.... Last year, we spent 1 morning fishing off the pier. Caught a bunch of blues then went home and at 'em. This year I was thinking of doing some Fly Fishing from shore. I probably won't spend too much time traveling, so the beach will be about the only place I'll be. Suggestions, thoughts, tips, pointers?

TIA!

:D

sqerl,

I fly fished the outerbanks a couple of years. Typically in early august which is the low point although there can be some good red fishing on the inside. You're not too far from Oregon inlet. Typically there is good fishing in the inlet. Do you have 2 wheel drive capability? If so you you might just head down there for an AM. I've caught blues and flounder on the fly in there in past years. I also got a guide and went "combat" fishing IN the piers supporting the Oregon Inlet bridge. You live line a little croaker, in the rips going through the peir, wait for your rod to bend and see if you have enough muscle to pull out the striper from the pier before he breaks you off. Not really my kind of fishing but entertaining for a morning. Kind of dangerous stuff. Don't bring the kids. No chance should they fall out of the boat.

There are a couple of boards down there and a couple of shops, one in kitty hawk I believe which will help you decide what to do. I don't have them handy so do a little search and you'll find them Early AM at sunrise, a 9 wt. and some decievers should get you a fish or two from the beach.

Good luck. Let me know if you have any other quesitons.
