Storing your Boo Rod for the winter

Some folks have asked whether it makes sense to fish Bamboo during the winter. I rarely fish during the winter anymore although this year I hope to try steelhead for the first time. My question is what is the optimal way to store your bamboo rod during the long winter months. SHould you keep it in your Rod Tube or should you take it out of the tube and keep it in a cool dark place for the winter. Appreciate your feedback as I own a few Bamboo Rods now and want to keep them in the best shape possible.

I don't fish my cane rods during the winter, Mac. I don't otherwise give any special care.

Perhaps Ronbo or somebody more informed will chime in for ya.

Most guys stick them in potting soil outside and hope for them to take root before the spring.

I consider breakage a bigger threat than rot....

I've been storing mine in the rod tubes for over 30 years without any apparent ill effect.

Make sure the rod, as well as the rod sock and tube, are absolutely dry, before you put them away.
For extra peace of mind, put in one of those silica gel packs used to package moisture sensitive foods and materials.

Both are great sugestions,
Make sure the rods are put away dry and any climate controlled envirement is fine.
Stay away from extreme high or low temps and you'll be fine.
By the way I fish my boo all winter and always have without any problem as long as there put away dry.
