Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Up until last night, I only got into small bass with the largest barely up to the 20" mark. Last night I made it out just looking to have some fun, and boy did I. Does anyone else use that Farmers Almanac for fishing predictions? Cause its dead on balls accurate. Here's my report.

Here's how it went down. My wife asked me if I wanted to go fishing this evening since I'll be watching our 3 year old tomorrow while she has book club. Who was I to say no....

So I got in my canoe and headed down to the rivah. Packed the 10 weight and the spinning rod, just intent on having fun without constraints. But I had the best of intentions...

Things started slow.

And escalated slowly

Then things started to pick up

Got two of those in a row, both fought nicely. Then all o a sudden, that magic switch was flipped and all hell broke loose

Had two 25" ers break me off at the canoe in my hands. No ****. These will do though in their absence

Nice fish. Not to sound like a pompous ass, but do they get any bigger down there? We been hitting them in the 20-40 lb range up here for about 2 weeks now. Im guessing its just the river you fish. Regardless, a fish is a fish and Im sure they gave you some nice play.

They do based on what I've experienced in years past. but not nearly as prolific down river closer to the bay. I know commercial fishermen that absolutely clean up down river, but up here its a lot more seldom.

They were awesome to catch though, refreshing. like I said everything this year has been small that I've caught and have seen caught. The last couple of years have not been great. 32" is the keeper mark for the area... and in my network of fishermen I don't know that anyone has caught anything of that size yet. 27" is what I taped out at... but again our section is smaller, lots of back channel separations to the main branch of the river, not as deep, and not all that cold. I'm all the way up at the tip, the fall line as it were.
