A return to the scene of the crimes

Many moons ago, several members of this Board, led by Chief Cabarle, traveled to a stream bank on the West Branch of the Delaware just south of the WBA. Our mission was to remove all the garbage that was thrown over the bank from the roadway probably decades worth of stuff including appliances...

    Old Photo by Dennis Cabarle

Many moons ago I was fishing with some buddies at Stockport. I had fooled a nice rainbow and was fighting it when a drift boat passed and one of the drifters had a camera in his hand instead of a fly rod. I recall him taking photos as he passed slowly by. I'm not sure if we exchanged any...

    Spare spool question

Does anyone own a Scientific Angler reel made by Hardy in the 2/3 size? I came across a spare spool that looks like it is for a 2/3 but can't be sure as there are no size markings on the spool and i don't have the reel. The spool is 2 3/4" in diameter. I appreciate any input.

Fishing in the Lake Louise/Banff area

Does anyone have any experience fishing in the Banff/Lake Louise area? I am going out to do some sightseeing in early October and I am wondering if it would be worth bringing my stuff with me. I am not planning on bringing waders but I thought I could do some lake shore fishing. I am not...

    Stream cleanup

Several decades ago members of this site including it's founding Father Dennis C.got together and cleaned up a hillside of shit on the West Branch. Apparently many of the natives used gravity as their garbage disposal. I have not been back to see if they resumed their devious activities. I...

Caveat Emptor-Ebay users in New York

A warning to you New York Ebay users. I just found out the hard way that NYS is imposing a sales tax on all transactions above $110. I purchased a rod from the State of Oregon which has no sales tax. Ebay then tacked on $40.62 sales tax for NYS. I contacted the NYS Tax Department and they...

    Danger while wading

What is the most dangerous situation you have encountered on the stream? I'll go first: I was fishing the main stem and there was a very strong flow. I was standing in water up to my hips when another angler several yards upstream yelled to me that there was a log coming down. I could not...

    Froze my ass off

I fished the West Branch 3 weeks ago...air temp 90, water temp 48. After 4 hours up to my chest my teeth started chattering so bad i thought I would need dental work. Breathables with under armour cold gear long johns did not cut it. I took my James Scott neoprenes out of storage (purchased...

Lon Hydrostop-is it safe to handle?

I was looking to help my bulky flies float better and was considering the Loon Hydrostop liquid. This product reminds me of Scotchguard which has known carcinogens. Since this hydrostop was probably a product developed for industrial applications I was wondering if anyone out there has any...

    Drift boat etiquette

Two drift boats anchored next to each at Stileville for over 4 hours today sitting and waiting..... absolutely poor form who ever you are.

    Hueg fish, huge hands

I don't get it. How come all the photos of really nice fish, the anglers have such huge hands?

Sage fly rod and Hardy reel

I would like to sell my 2 weight outfit. It's a sage Grpahite II 279 Lightline 2 piece. This is not a factory rod. I built this rod using REC components, nickel silver winding check and ns slide band over rosewood spacer ,cigar grip handle and nickel sliver butt cap. The rod is in very good...

    Stripers

I fished a No-Kill stretch on the Willowemoc today and came across the remains of a very large striper. It was recently killed and all that remained was a very large head and a very large tail, nothing in between with scales scattered around. Not sure if it's a holdover fish or a very early...

    West Branch Cleanup

A few years back some anglers got together for a half day cleanup of a particularly disgusting bank along the West Branch below the West Branch Angler. Big Spinner, Dcabarle, Future Fanatic and me to name a few. This dump site was a favorite of some locals who probably enjoyed watching their...
