My New Bamboo

MACFLY

Too many streams too little time
Hi all

Just took delivery of my new Bamboo fly rod made by Jason Collett. I cant even begin to describe this rod. It is just amazing. Jason has simply made a masterpiece. Its 7 1/2 ft 3pc 2tips. I test cast the rod in August before the final work was completed. I plan to post pics tomorrow when I have some time but frankly I am dying to get this rod on the river. The rod is beautifully flamed with an almost cinammon coloring to it. Wrapped in a reddish plum with blued ferrules (hope that is the correct way to describe it). I have purchased a Bill Ballen reel to match this rod which will hopefully come tomorrow. I will top it off with a cortland Sylk line DT5. Just cant say enough about how incredible this bamboo rod is. It comes alive in your hands. In a word its SWEEEEET!!!! Thanks again Jason for your time and patience in building this rod. Lets go fishing:)

Congratulations Mac,
Was the Maker Jason Klett?
I have casted some of Jason's Rods and they are exceptional.
I'm sure it will become your go to rod as you won't want to fish anything else.
Enjoy your new rod and don't bite it or lay it in the water like allen:rofl:

That's it Ron slight correction on the spelling of his name and it's 2 piece 2 tip not 3 piece. Just had it on the lawn casting for a bit with my backup reel. Throwing some nice loops out to 40 ft. So far. Have to unlearn my fast action fly rod stroke;)

As a maker and restorer of bamboo rods, I can share your excitement. Life is to short not to fish bamboo. Enjoy.
JJ

Dont be a Hater..you probably fish with a broomstick and a treble hook:)

Well, don't all the guys who belong to the hoity toity bamboo club say that those who don't, might as well be fishin' with a broomstick?

Do you guys have a secret handshake, too?

;)

You used hoity toity to describe me as a flyfisherman. No one uses Hoit toity unless they are a hater. Have I cleared this up for you...Hater:)

Jeez by these responses, you'd think he had his first born...

(Psst... it's a fishing rod)

Oh FF go right ahead and piss directly into the poor guy's Corn Flakes why don't you.

Come on man... he was just bragging and you had to go and bring it all back down to earth.

Now come on.. say something nice to MacFoole...

Come-on you can do it....

(hint-hint) Oh Lordy-lordy MacFoole.. you gits a bumboo rod.. you is such a luckie ...

Sorry a little late but here are some pics of the new boo rod. BTW I dont know if I mentioned this or not but I purchased a Bill Ballen reel for this new bamboo rod. He normally sells his reels for around 450.00 a piece but is offering them at 50% off on ebay for a limited time. Absolutely awesome reels and a great price. Pics arent the best but you get the idea. Today I will break her in on some unnamed stream:)

Even tho you hate me Macfly, it looks like you got it right with this rod.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while, right Mac?

Nice looking stick. You'll love it, I'm sure.

Don't be afraid to fish it; it won't fall apart with the weight of the first trout.

Your going to enjoy that. Jason is a class act too.

A few of us were casting his stuff at one of the CFFCM's events...fine rods indeed.

CJ

Thanks All

Well I got to break it in this afternoon with BHC and it did not disappoint at all. While no fish came to hand I did get to spend some time getting the feel of it. Ronbo I did let Allen Cast it cause he promised he wouldnt bite the thing although I think he came close a couple of times:) Actually thanks Allen for the brief casting lesson. Its a completely different casting experience than what I am used to but I really do like it a great deal. Thanks again Jason for building such a great rod. I promise a fish on this one next time I am out with it.

One beautiful fly rod Paul ! This rod cast effortlessly and very accurate sweet indeed sorry the fish did not cooperate we'll get them next time.I know one thing for sure it was tough going from spey casting an 8wt. down to casting a dry on a7' 5wt LOL!

A couple of folks asked me where I got the case for the bamboo rod from. Its actually on Ebay. The guy who makes them posts different lengths and wood options on a fairly consistent basis. Dennis C I dont know if you care if I link ebay sites. You can find these under custom made fly rod tubes. Some are listed on auction and some a buy it now or best offer. Hope this helps

How many weeks do you have to collect before you get that drift boat?

Will I see you out in Oregon in May fishing?

Or will it be next month in April down in the Smokies?

You should also buy a rod and reel for the Salmon River.

MacDOLE... You lazy no good BUM...
