Allan, (i'm gonna do this in three seperate emails, so nobody misses their's) two things. First, i fished the "School House" water for the first time last year with Les Maynard, i think you know him. He comes to the Sat.'s at the CFFC&M all the time w/and w/o his wife. He's a photographer and used to have a fly shop up state. Anyway, he stays at Twin Islands every year all season. It is probably THE best dry fly water on the Beaverkill. I happen to like the water at Ferdon's Eddy (very deep pool), a lot myself. But "School House" is fantastic dry fly water. I would stay there if i were you. I have no idea of the difference in cost from the Roscoe Campgrounds. You CAN fish through the "School House" water, if you get in at Twin Islands pool and work your way down. But you have to stay below the high water mark. The people who own the Twin Islands Campgrounds are very nice though and i can't imagine them getting up tight. The eve. i fished it, there was a serious Caddis Hatch and the fish were taking both emergers and adults. In fact, they were sometimes jumping out of the water to catch the Oct. Caddis. It was amazing to watch. Les is a big fan of, and i think actually the originator of, The Bowtie Caddis. And he was killin' 'em with that fly too. Second: i was thinking of Thurs. for the "Neversink Day" also. So let's make that official.
Also, don't forget that my allustrious co-host Allan Podell (Mayfly) is a very talented and proficiant fly tyer who has many years experience tying the classic "Catskill Style" fly patterns. He also has a new body material that he might want to show you all. It's fantastic stuff, and can be used on dries or wets. Makes a GREAT segmented body. I've been using it myself for a couple years. "Maybe" we can get Allan to do a little demo for us one night?????? He will also be tying at the CFFC&M on the Sat. afternoon of the "Gathering" from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. so......
Bruce, at this point nothing is set in stone. Except THAT, we DO meet EACH day at the Roscoe Dinner in the morning at 7:00 a.m. for breakfast and then, decide what we will do, so as to be headed for the water by 8:00 a.m. This is the way we did it last year, and it worked just fine. So far we have the Neversink River Day on Thur. June 3rd, and the One Fly Contest on Sat. June 5th. I may move that to Fri. June 4th depending on who's tying at the CFFC&M on Sat. June 5th. Last year we had a huge group of folks who all hung out and watched Keith Fulsher (famouse for his Thunder Creek series of streamers, and for Hairwing Salmon Flies) tye from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. My wife and i haven't missed but a very few Sat. afternoon fly tying sessions there in probably 10 yrs. I take down the recipes and she does drawings of the flies and we have hundreds of pages of this from over the years. We plan to do a book someday. So, you can count on Thur. June 3rd for Neversink River Day. And i'll post it when i get it down for sure about the One Fly Contest. We may also try to get someone to do a spey casting clinic for us.........i'm working on that. And i'm also working on a fly tying clinic by Mary Dette, and possibly Tom Mason. I'll keep you'all posted.
Yes, last year i asked Poul Jorgensen to do us a demo of a few flies and he graciously agreed. We held the demo in the classroom at the CFFC&M and they charged us $50 for the use of the space, so we all chiped a buck or two. You know how museums are, LOL. It was WELL worth it though. Poul is very giving of his time and efforts and he did four or five of his most classic flies for us. It was great! mark
